Chicago, IL, Dec 4 – 9, 2014

This was our Christmas trip to Chicago for some relaxation and Christmas shopping.

Getting there

We flew SAS from the Nordics to Chicago. Our tickets were in economy, but I had requested an upgrade approx 30 days prior to our travel, but this was turned down. When getting to the gate in CPH, the gate agent told us that they only had 1 available seat in business, so we ended up in economy plus. When we came on board they plane, it turned out that the business section was less than 1/3 full. I requested to speak with the purser and asked why we were not upgraded, he mumbled that they did not have sufficient food on board. SAS – this is a rather lame excuse for not upgrading EB frequent flyers – especially as  a request was made 1 month in advance… I have many good things to say about SAS, but when it comes to how they handle frequent flyers and upgrades there are room for improvement, especially at CPH. And, I should also mention that the purser ignored us (to the degree possible as he was serving our part of the cabin) for the rest of the flight!

Windy Chicago

Chicago lived up to its reputation – it was windy and cold. But, this and the Christmas decorations around the city  gave us a good feel for Christmas! We stayed at the Radisson Blu Aqua hotel, located close to Millennium Park and a short walk to the Magnificent Mile.

We walked along the Magnificent Mile, did some Christmas shopping and generally enjoyed life!

Restaurants and pubs visited

We had dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Joe’s Seafood. Both OK restaurants. We also very much enjoyed our visit to Howells & Hood Bar and Gastropub.
